Die FidoCon 2020, die dieses Jahr vom (Do. 21.5.), Fr. 22.5. bis So. 24.5.2020 im Hotel Zum-Ritter in Nidderau-Heldenbergen (um die Ecke von Bleichenbach) stattfinden sollte, musste aufgrund Covid-19 abgesagt werden.
Zwischenzeitlich prüften wir ein virtuelles Treffen abzuhalten, das dann am Samstag, 23.5. bzw. Sonntag, 24.5. jeweils ab 15 Uhr in einem Discord Kanal stattfand.
Von den geplanten Vorträgen zur FidoCon 2020 schafften es nachfolgende Vorträge gehalten zu werden:

[20.10.2016] Ambrosia's Host system crashed
last Friday evening.
On my return on Monday evening I detected
a frozen system. It tooks 3 days more
to identify a defective powersupply, one broken RAM,
and have to repair some degraded RAID partitions.
AMBROSIA60 was down for about 5 days.

starting disk repairs, rebuilds still failed.
2 mirror discs failed, offline for hdd repair.
Host OS reinstall, recover.
System restarted 24.10.2016 8:00

still low-level testing failed drives on another machine
with sata to usb converter.
No results so far ...

AMBROSIA60 local network restructuring

[24.01.2016] Network separation part III
LAN separation tooks more time then expected.
After several tries to get the local network
seperated into a LAN and DMZ (green and orange)
the last attempt succeeded to move forward
with this project.
AMBROSIA60 was down for about 3 1/2 hours
on Sunday evening local time.

[11.12.2015] *Update* - Network separation part II
This night, I've continued with the lan separation
project, so AMBROSIA60 was down for about 3 hours
Thursday to Friday night 11th Dec
for maintenance. System maintenance succeeded.

[04.12.2015] The story behind this week
AMRBOSIA60 offline times ...
Starting with an Exchange 2013 HA project,
I've tried to prepare the LAN to seperate
in two segments. A green LAN and an orange DMZ.
All with a Fritzbox 7390.

After modifications to the configuration
and implementing the update, the Firewall crashed.
It tooks one night to recover, early in the next morning -
this was Wednesday to Thursday night.
Another try on Thursday noon, to implement 2 segments under one network card (eth0 and eth0:0) results again in services outage. The Firewall rebooted but dyn-dns services didn't recover, so it tooks again 6 hours until I could recover the non-working services.

The R24PNT compile I've delayed for about 3 hours, so missing updates have had a chance to be collected.
All services are now back online.

FTP access currently out of service (and now back online)

[02.09.2015] Problem solved.
Problem started after migration to windows server 2008 r2.
Known smb1 problems with remote server access from 2008 to other windows servers
(remote resources, remote shares) affected Apache for Windows and Filezilla for
for Windows in a way, that remote mappings in the old DOS style Q:\RESOURCE
or Q:/RESOURCE did no longer work.
A workaround found that still works is using format: //SERVER/SHARE/RESOURCE
notation.
Be careful: Filezilla Server configuration requires manual editing.
and every modifications under the Filezilla Server monitor overwrites the
fixes.
[31.08.2015] Starting with system upgrades on the virtual webserver
the ftp server stops working with virtualized subdirectories.
Every directory request results now in the error message:
550 CWD failed. "/directory": directory not found.
The attempt to rollback the ftp server software doesn't work. Directory listing failure still persists.
The ftp service @ambrosia60 is therefor currently out-of-service until I find a working solution. Sorry for any inconveniance caused.

Ambrosia60 wechselt von ADSL auf VDSL

[09.08.2014] Am Dienstag 12. August 2014 wird AMBROSIA60
den ganzen Tag oder zumindest zeitweise Offline wg. Umstellung
von ADSL auf VDSL sein. Die Umstellung soll bis in die Abendstunden abgeschlossen sein. So die Theorie. Schauen wir, wie es in der Praxis läuft. Nach der Umstellung soll immerhin eine 10-fach schnellere Verbindung möglich sein.


[12.08.2014] Update - gegen 13 Uhr wurde auf VDSL umgeschaltet. Internet Zugang war bis auf eine kurze Unterbrechung durchgelaufen. Umstellung ist damit abgeschlossen.

"Jazz im Museum" gibts nicht mehr -
Es lebe "Jazz im Palmengarten"

[08.08.2014] Was haben wir in 2013 Unterschriften gesammelt.
Sonntags beim Jazz-im Museum, Dienstags bei der Reihe
Weltmusik im Palmengarten. Leider hat es nichts genutzt.
Die Zuschüsse der Stadt wurden gestrichen.
Fortgeführt wird eine Reihe im Palmengarten Dienstags Abends.
Diese Reihe soll Jazz im Museum und Weltmusik im Palmengarten
vereinen. Auch wenn das Programm mindestens ein Highlight
aufweist, ist mir der Ticketpreis für 77 Euro für 5 Veranstaltungen
dann doch ein wenig zu teuer und stellt auch keine richtig wirkliche Alternative zu den hochkarätigen Jazzkonzerten der Serie Jazz-im-Museum dar.
Allerdings bin ich im Laufe des ersten Halbjahres diesen Jahres im Club Voltaire
auf die Jazz-Initiative Frankfurt aufmerksam geworden, die auch die Serie Jazz-im-Palmengarten alljährlich mit erstklassigen Künstlern füllt. 3 Veranstaltungen gab es bereits in dieser Veranstaltungsreihe dieses Jahr.
Auch wenn musikalisch die Serie Jazz-im-Palmengarten einen neuen Hafen
darstellt, so fehlt aber das Ambiente eines Sonntag-Morgen Frühschoppens
mit anschliessendem langen und späten Frühstück.

Friday, November 1st, 2013 in NODELIST.305
Hubs, Nodes and Points decided to migrate the Network
into one Hub under Net 2:240.
The project is a future orientated step in preventing future service
outages and unreliable links.
The "fidonet" project will offer to each downlink additional mirror links
within the own net as a fallback option.
This will increase the count of reliable links that in case of an accident the management and reorganisation of links will become more faster and stable. Nodes can be moved between Hubs without mass changes in the complete Region. Echo and files distribution can be better organised and shared between different hub systems.

FIDOPEDIA is back Online
After a long time of a server outage, the Fidonet Wikipedia is back online. The website is running on a volunteer basis and hosts pages currently in German. The website answers questions: What is this Points24? What is a Node? What is the structure of a FidoNet Message and Paket? Gives instructions how to build your own Fidonet system and is also a glossar to fidonet technical definitions.

to dtdns.net had a big big disadvantage.
The website could no longer be found in the search indexes.
Especialy Google blocks dtdns.net the reason given:
"Spammy free hosts and dynamic DNS providers
This site is hosted by a free hosting service or dynamic DNS provider
that has a significant fraction of spammy content."
This makes it prudent to move over to another DynDNS service provider
that I've found in Two-DNS
Hopefuly I have more luck than in the previous move.

Summer in the city, "Jazz im Museum" 2013

[18.08.2013] Nils Petter Molvaer, Jan Bang und Vladislav Delay
setzten mit ihrem Konzert den Schlussakkord
bei der diesjährigen Veranstaltungsreihe
Jazz im Museum, das im Garten des Museums
für Angewandte Kunst stattfand.
Möglicherweise könnte dies das allerletzte
Konzert dieser alljährlichen Konzertreihe
gewesen sein, da die Stadt die Streichung
der Fördermittel für das kommende Jahr angekündigt hat.
Wenn es dazu kommen würde, wäre die Stadt Frankfurt um
eine weitere Institution ärmer.
Damit es nicht soweit kommt, hatten zahlreiche Helfer Unterschriften gesammelt
und die Gäste, die Auswirkungen vor Augen, sich zahlreich daran beteiligt.

Das Summertime Programm begleitet mich seit dem Ende meiner Schulzeit.
Und die Musik von den Konzerten begleitet mich das ganze Jahr über.
Ob ich nun im Auto unterwegs nach Hamburg, Berlin, Muenchen oder Köln bin.
Ob ich Entspannung suche, und wieder mal einer der gekauften CD's
in den Player einschiebe ... die Bilder von den Konzerten vor Augen,
die Erinnerungen helfen mir, auch über die fünf mal 2 Stunden im Jahr hinaus,

SLA Update For Dyn Non-Paid Users

[18.05.2013] The recent SLA Update for Dyn Non-Paid Users
make it prudent to switch to a new
Free and Non-blocking x¹) DynDns provider.
Despite the fact, that this recent SLA update,
is bad business integrity to notify the community
about their service interuptions plans
without any prior notification on their main website.
Searching for informations about the SLA update, no SLA update article
can be found, except forwarded posts at external, non DynDns websites.
Reducing free services is NOD, but blocking any free service
especialy by offering this free uninteruptable service
over years is a bad reputation.
At least I don't recommend this DynDNS provider any longer ...
x¹) updated Free account at DynDNS, allows 5 hosts to serve,
but requires manualy login to their website every 30 days
to continue the service. Otherwise the registered host
will be revoked automaticly.
So in its consequence, this is no longer a usable Free
service without a forced service outage.

SEO Massnahmen bei AMBROSIA60

[11.10.2012] Im Zuge eines Website Projekts
bin ich auf die SEO Problematik gestossen.
Nun versuche ich parallel zu dem Website Projekt
anhand der Beispiele auf meiner privaten Website
die Optimierungsmassnahmen auszuprobieren.
Einige der Massnahmen sind bereits sichtbar geworden:
Einmal die Social Media Buttons sind hinzu gekommen.
Dann ein RSS 2.0 Feed und dann hat sich auch
das Navigationsmenü verändert.
Alle diese Massnahmen gehen einher mit den Suchmaschinen-
Optimierungen, die ich zur Zeit Schritt für Schritt

The Fido-History Project Web Search Form

[29.9.2008] NDL2DB full re-import #4 finished.

[23.9.2008] started the 3rd or 4th complete nodelists re-import after be aware of missing state and keyword entrys from the prior import. data is now stored into a 2nd database until finished. if finished i'll switch also the websearch form to connect to the 2nd database.
Add nodelist states and keywords to the database with the corrected import script (ndl2db 2.02-beta1)
Also updated Fidonet Nodelist Search Form (NLARCHIVE2) v2.00-rc9 search script to display state and keywords correctly.

[6.6.2008] ... and re-import finished.
The Fidonet Nodelist Search Form (NLARCHIVE2) query results are now based upon the complete and fixed Fido-History-Projects-Archive of nodelists.

[30.5.2008] One month after the 2nd trial of NDL2DB import of Nodelists finishes, reports received me about an unknown count of database inconsistency. So, i've decided to reset the database and starting the 3rd and hopefuly last trial of full nodelist import into database.

[31.3.2008] Fidonet Nodelist Search Form (NLARCHIVE2) Web Search Form introduced.
After recovery of the Fido-History-Project scripts (see Daten-GAU 29.2.08) i've started about beginning of March with the Nodelist import into the database. This weekend i've now started with the deployment of the web search form. My first introduce is the NLARCHIVE2 script.

Daten-GAU bei AMBROSIA60

[9.2.2008] VMserver Harddisc gecrasht.
Nachdem sich bei der 500 Gb Platte des Virtuellen Servers,
auf dem 1 Testserver, 1 Teil-Produktivserver und
2 Testworkstations seit Oktober 2007 liefen, bei
Kopier- und Transferaktionen Geräusche der Form
    Klack - Klack - Klack - Klackklack - Klack - Klack ...
bemerkbar machten, war es auch schon zu spät. Der Plattenausfall
riss gleich 4 Maschinen mit sich. Auf dem Teilproduktivserver
lief der Datenbank Import für das Fido-History-Project
und die Fidobase - ein Projekt zu einer ultimativen MySQL
Fidonet Messagebase. Da letztere bereits auf mehreren Systemen
verteilt ist, ist hier der Ausfall noch wieder herstellbar.
Was bei den Sources zum Fido-History-Project DB Import nicht der
Fall ist. Auch sind weitestgehends sämtliche Image Sources
verloren gegangen. Ich arbeite fieberhaft daran den Teilproduktiv Server
wieder zum Laufen zu bekommen.
Update [2.3.08]
Fido-History-Project to DB NDL2DB (former NLARCHIVE) PHP port scripts rewritten.
Nach abschliessenden Tests läuft nun der Import der Nodelisten aus dem Fido-History-Projekt Archiv an. Damit ist nun das zweite von drei Projekten wieder auf dem Stand wie zum Zeitpunkt des Daten-Gaus vom 9.2.08.   mehr ...

Ulrich Schröter steps in to re-install the Z2PNT pointlist disribution.
The first official Z2PNT (2nd generation) distribution was on 21st Dec 2007.

Gefahndet wird im Rahmen des Fido-History-Projects nach einer
POINTS24.365 bzw. PR24DIFF.365 aus dem Jahre 1993 (!!!)

Da zu diesem Zeitpunkt 2 unterschiedliche Versionen der Points24 bzw. der Pr24Diff
kursierten (Light + Classic), ist zum erfolgreichen Aufspüren der entsprechenden Datei
bei der Suche auch die Version zu berücksichtigen (s.u.).

Hat also irgendjemand noch einer der beiden Files auf seiner Festplatte? auf irgendeiner Floppy? (Point-Erstinstallationspaket?) bei dem eine der gesuchten Datei Versionen mit enthalten sind? Vielleicht auf irgendeinem alten Backup Tape? Auf irgendeiner ausrangierten Festplatte?

HTML Projekt "Chronik des Kirchspiels Bludau"

[5.1.2007] Das von mir im Mai 2003 gestartete HTML Projekt ist nun vorerst einmal beendet. Die Konvertierung der gesamten Chronik in ein maschinenlesbares Format hat sich immerhin über knapp vier Jahre hingezogen. Ein Datenbank Modelling mit anschliessendem Transfer der Daten zum Zwecke von Datenbankabfragen ist in Planung. mehr ...

[14.3.2006] (Updated) Wie schafft man es, seine seit Jahren gewachsene Filebase in PHP-Nuke's Download Section zu integrieren? Noch dazu dass keine der alten FTN Software irgendwelche SQL Schnittstellen mitliefert. Das Projekt ist nun abgeschlossen und das Ergebnis steht als Paket unter der Projektdokumentation DLIMP/DLTIC zur Verfügung.

AMBROSIA BBS goes Internet ...

[1.4.2003] Aufgrund der belegten DNS Domain AMBROSIA.DE habe ich mich dazu entschlossen für die Internet Präsenz die seit 1990 bestehende AMBROSIA BBS für den Internetzugriff unter dem Namen AMBROSIA60 laufen zu lassen und Online zu nehmen. AMBROSIA, lat. Götterspeise, war die ursprüngliche Umschreibung für das BBS System mit den vielfältigen digitalen Informationen an dem sich die User laben konnten.
[14.12.2005] Heute ist zwar die Filebase via Internet erreichbar, aber der Forenzugang lässt immer noch auf sich warten. Dafür sind aber Informationsseiten hinzugekommen (Ahnenforschung, FG2-Mirror Website, Musik) die in dieser Form im Fidonet System nicht zu finden waren.
